Unfair advantage. This were the words of pro riders. We are very proud to introduce Diamana, the most advanced tire insert ever created. For the first time in the history of cycling, there’s a study on how air molecules move inside the tire during casing deformation.
Why unfair?
- Rolling resistance, traction, shock absorption and puncture protection have always been a compromise between tread compound, casing strength and air inflation. Diamana is the only device which allows to obtain, at the same time, lower rolling resistance, higher traction and a smoother ride, making your ride faster and safer on both climbs and descends. Welcome to the new era!
How does it work?
- Taking a look at how the tire compresses and rebounds during a shock, we can see how the entire process is so fast that the tire casing gets back to its original shape even before suspensions start compressing, creating inconstant tire pressure on the ground which equals to poor traction. This is amplified by high inflation pressure, can at the same time be mitigated by lowering tire inflation, and it’s actually the reason why a lower inflated tire offers more traction. What we created is a solution to cut this rebound out and leave the tire at constant pressure on the ground.
- The lateral channels are shaped to create a Venturi effect, meaning that air flow through the channels increases speed as channels gets smaller. This is the same principle of Formula 1 cars ground effect, and is required to speed up air from the outer portion of the insert to the inner portion, between the insert and the rim bed. Air gets trapped into the inner portion and takes much longer to get back to the outer one, leaving the entire shock moment with very low air on the shock spot.
Dimpled upper surface
- The dimples on the upper of the insert, which take inspiration from the dimples in golf balls, together with the insert’s waved shape, help air not to bounce back to the tire causing a strong rebound effect, but rather to flow into the lateral channels.
The results?
- Rolling resistance: third part tests showed that RR on rough surface is reduced up to 9 %. Even taking into account the added inserts weight, it always translates into faster climbing speed.
- Tire pressure on the ground: massive 60 % higher, bringing traction to a completely new level.
- Vibration dampening: 55 % higher. Less fatigue and more stable ride.
Durability
- Tubolight Diamana is made by high density closed cell EVA foam. Density and hardness need to be very high in order to maintain the shape during use and guarantee constant air flow between the channels. This leads to the longest lasting tire insert ever made, with years of expected lifespan before needing replacement, even after long runflat rides.
User friendliness
- Diamana is a very easy device to live with. Installation is fairly easy, on par with the EVO versions, it’s 100 % absorption free guaranteed with all sealants on the market and specific valves are not required.
