Jim James, the vocalist, producer, primary songwriter, and guitarist for My Morning Jacket, has long impressed fans worldwide with his band and his solo projects. He now has his very own Epiphone signature model. Based on one of his favorite guitars, the Epiphone Jim James ES-335 features a Seventies Walnut-finished 5-ply laminated maple body with a solid maple center block for increased sustain and a mahogany neck with a Jim James Custom SlimTaper C profile and an Indian laurel fretboard with dot inlays. The Alnico Classic PRO pickups are paired with CTS potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors. Personal touches include vintage-style Kluson Waffleback tuners with metal buttons, a circle/arrow emblem on the truss rod cover, and an owl decal on the back of the headstock. A hardshell case with an owl logo is also included.
The guitar features a mahogany neck for excellent strength and stability. Mahogany is known for its great resonance, contributing to a warm, rich tone with a distinctive mid-range.
The glossy finish gives any surface an elegant and luxurious look. This type of finish is achieved by applying several layers of lacquer or resin, which are then polished to a high gloss. This provides a smooth, reflective finish, enhancing color and structure of substrate. The glossy finish not only improves aesthetics, but also protects against dust, moisture and minor scratches.
Laminated maple provides a bright and resonant tone with excellent response and sustain. The layered construction adds strength and stability, reducing susceptibility to cracking or warping. The laminated maple body maintains clear highs and punchy tone, making it ideal for musical styles that require a precise and articulate response.
The humbucker-humbucker configuration means that the guitar is equipped with two humbucker pickups. It offers a powerful, full sound with high output and low noise, ideal for rock and metal.
Laurel is a medium hard wood with a warm brown tone and fine texture. It provides a well-balanced tone with a softer response, contributing to a comfortable playing experience. The Laurel fingerboard is an affordable alternative to more expensive woods, while offering good stability and a pleasing appearance.
